HTC HD2 Footprints and Google Maps Integration

When I got my phone I installed the WWE 1.66 firmware. As default this has an old version of Google Maps installed as well as a trial edition of CoPilot 8. There is also an application called Footprints that lets you take pictures with the phone and it automatically geo-tags them. Once you've done that you can then choose to "Show on map" which opens CoPilot and does as it suggests. What's wrong with that? Well CoPilot isn't free and I for one don't intend to pay for navigation software I'll rarely use. Rarely does not mean never though and so I thought it would be nice to switch from CoPilot to Google Maps. Turns out this isn't so straight forward. There isn't a simple dropdown list of choices. I had to do a bit of googling but eventually got it working using a combination of techniques I found. I thought I'd condense them all into one place for any other happy go trotters :)

Migrating from Windows Live Mail to Outlook 2010

I signed up to the Microsoft Office 2010 beta program last week. My main motivation was so I could use Outlook to sync my contacts with my HD2 WinMo phone. It would of been nice if that could sync with Windows Live Mail but hey, the powers that be decided that would be too easy. Those same powers also saw fit to make Outlook 2010 unable to directly import mail and account settings from WLM. Quite annoying. There is a way around this but it does require a wee bit of work. The basics of it are to export your messages from WLM in a format that Outlook can then import.

Living With The HTC HD2

A while ago I bought a HTC HD2. I did a minor bit of tinkering with it to get it just right. I'm still only about half way done with the changes I want to make but I thought I'd post about what I've noticed so far.

More MDM Zinc Issues

I've had issues with MDM Zinc in the past but due to certain issues with Adobe AIR find myself stuck with Zinc. I can't really be bothered getting into why AIR is unsuitable for our current needs but safe to say it is. There are other alternatives to Zinc but I don't have the time to research them at the moment. I think I will put a few hours a side to do this on Thursday as I've totally had it with MDM. They clearly have no idea how to implement bug fixes or deal with the public. It's all about the money for them. Oooooo look at our new piece of crap Inferno that extends AIR. Shut your mouth MDM, deal with your own software before you start trying to improve other peoples.

b2evolution Base Tag Issue

b2evolution uses a base tag to help with its template system. This is fine in modern browsers but depending on how the base tag is written IE6 may refuse to show the site at all, even going to the point of giving the user a popup warning dialogue. The fix is quite simple and I've implemented it in the past for both Joomla and CMS Made Simple. Now it's time for the b2evolution version.
