This is a Flash only site. It consists of six pages that are progressed through in a slidehow fashion. Each page has a “next” button on it that progresses to the next page. It includes a preloader, a rotating gimic and an embedded video. The other pages are mostly static except for their intro and outro animation.

  • Created a 438 Design version of the site. This will be linked to www.438design.com, it's blue and uses the other flv video clip

• General
  • Added the word ‘NEXT’ underneath the play button on each page
  • On the “Hello” page, please change the copy to say “click below” rather than “click here”
  • The typeface in bold on all pages is not quite right – can you please check it is Swiss?
  • Made rotating brands 20% larger than their original size and increased the circle or rotation diameter
  • Replaced the Henkel logo with the one from google images, the one that was provided by Nick was a gif with shit quality
• Received the following change list:
  • I’m happy to publish the site straight away subject to the following amends. Priority #1 must happen before it goes live. Priority #2 can happen during the course of this week.
  • Priority # 1
    • The typeface in bold on all pages is not quite right – can you please check it is Swiss?
    • The brands are illegible when they go over the 438 logo – could they circle wider in order to increase legibility?
    • Also, can you make them bigger please?
    • Would it be possible to add the word ‘NEXT’ underneath the play button on each page?
    • On the ‘Hello’ page, please change the copy to say “click below” rather than “click here”
    • Please replace the Henkel logo with the one below

    • Please replace the video with the one entitled ‘438 Com’ on our Mac to PC file
    • We need to create a 438 Design version of the site. This will be linked to www.438design.com will be blue and will use the show reel called “438 Des” in our Mac to PC file

• Made preloader account for external video file as it used to only take the size of the main swf into account
• 3. Typefaces need to match originals exactly – would be best to use bitmaps if we can't get Flash to do kerning correctly
  • Turns out I was using Helvetica and it was Swiss BT for the font
  • On top of that all the sizes and kerning where wrong
• 4. On the page with the spinning logos:
  • a) There are now 16 logos
  • b) The circle of rotation is now wider in diameter, so that the logos go around the bubble and not through it 
  • c) Used highest possible resolution for video
  • d) The logos spin 'much faster'
  • e) Converted whole thing to two videos via 3d studio and premiere

• Spend hours and hours trying to get the video bluescreen effect to work for the rotationg brand names, just seems to hate me.

• 1. Speech bubble is now bevelled. Did an exact copy n paste from the Photoshop image so it is the actual one they provided.
• 2. Next button is now smaller. Again; I just copied this from the Photoshop image so there can be no “it doesn't look right” comments about it later on.
• 5. The video was out of synch with the music so switched to using an external FLV.
• 6. “Quality of the video is not brilliant” – re-encoded to highest quality, is now 4.2MB
• 7. Made amendments to the copy:
  • a) Removed comma after '123' in the address
  • b) 'Strategic' was spelt wrong on the intro page, missed the letter R 
  • c) Changed “'em” to “them” on the slide prior to the video
  • d) Replaced www.438communications.com with info@438communications.com and make into a hyperlink on the contact page
  • e) Made whole address text selectable so it can be copy n pasted by clients

• Received all of the following as required changes:
  • 1. Speech bubbles need to be bevelled (see attached 'hello-amended.png')
  • 2. Next button needs to be smaller (can copy from attached 'hello-amended.png')
  • 3. Typefaces need to match originals exactly – would be best to use bitmaps if we can't get Flash to do kerning correctly
  • 4. On the page with the spinning logos:
    • a) There are now 16 logos (all files in attached new-logos.zip)
    • b) The circle of rotation needs to be wider in diameter, so that the logos don't appear to 'jump through' the bubble when they reach it 
    • c) If possible use higher-resolution versions of the logos to avoid pixellation when logos are at the front of the circle
    • d) The logos need to spin 'much faster' (say twice as fast)
  • 5. Apparently the video is out of synch with the music (even though the video is a mindless barrage of images and the music is a pumping techno acid trip). Maybe try external FLV as long as it doesn't overload the Flash cache
  • 6. “Quality of the video is not brilliant” – not sure if this a problem with their original or could the encoding quality be set higher? Don't really want to encode at any higher bitrate as 3Mb is probably too big already
  • 7. Amendments to the copy:

• General
  • Perfected the xhtml valid full screen flash setup. Took me all frickin day but it's done. Resizes to 100% width n height in IE and FF, has a xhtml transitional doctype and both the xhtml and css validate according the to w3c site. Should be noted that when I set the doctype to xhtml strict FF showed extra space at the bottom of the page which then automatically enabled the vertical scroll bar. only fix i could suss out was to drop down to transitional which is still fine with me. Going to send it over to the guy who makes UFO to see if he wants to list the solution on his site. Due to the table he might not.
