"You're in a desert, walking along in the sand when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise, Leon. It's crawling toward you. You reach down and you flip the tortoise over on its back, Leon. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping. I mean you're not helping! Why is that, Leon"

Note to everyone
10th February 2010 – The sim is not dead I've just been very busy. Over the past year or so I've setup my own company, changed how I work, moved house and got really into my fight training. I've also done a lot of work on the sim since my last official release. The entire code base has been re-written and the sim is now entirely ActionScript 3. The actual DHD is complete as far as I can tell. There are a whole bunch of new features in there. I started adding a wrapper around it all to encompass the various other screens I planned on implementing such as the different gate screens and the self destruct. I just ran out of time with that. The real sod was the wrapper screen. I have a very particular mental image of how I want that to work and the fact of the matter is that once I'd finished it, well performance sucked. It was alright except during the page transition sequence. I'm tempted to try out PaperVision and see if that helps. If it doesn't then I'll just remove the transition system and replace it with something less intensive. It will be a pity though as it would be really cool if it had smooth playback. I just checked and hte last time I worked on it was last December. I have about 9 personal projects on the go at the moment and this is one of them. I'm in the process of getting a couple of designers to knock up some designs for me for them all including a new site for the this project. I'll co-incide the new site with the final release of the sim.

Overview
This is a simulation of the Stargate Atlantis Dial Home Device. It includes an example Stargate screen and an example planet movie (Athosia). I decided to release this version now although there are still several additions I would like to make. The DHD is release edition only and therefore the source code is not included. I do not permit the usage of the code via any form of extraction it may be put through. The gate screen and Athosia demos both include their source code so that you may modify and create your own versions. My hope is that there will be a forum that you can post your movies in so others may share what you have created. Lets get onto the fun stuff; what it can do:

Features

  • Easy to configure XMLs file – a whole bunch of setup options are in there. You can change several key features of the sim.
  • Seperate XML files for addresses and config options so updating addresses is even easier
  • External Sounds – there's a shortage of good sound effect files at the moment. By keeping them external to the DHD you can easily add new sounds as they are released.
  • Extendable Gate Addresses – the addresses and some other information for each planet is stored in the address xml file.
  • + for key overlay – press + to show the key numberings. These were taken from a different source than cheveron26 and do not match what they list. Press + again to hide the numberings.

This is a project for a Stargate community called SGCSim who host a forum for the sim entitled “Atlantis DHD Simulator”.

GOOD WORK!!!!

But orders keyboards would have to be added: a letter (including the capital letters) by symbol and the central button it entered, Ca would be perfect.

Continue!

Awsome Sim! Now you just have to make a a gate screen like they use on the show, gate dignostics (SP?), and power display.

im not rilly sure atm. i think things like that might show up later on after the main sim is complete as addons but for now im not actively developing any.

well I was trying to get the next one done for the start of the latest series but that time came and passed. I'm working on the last of the panels at the moment, well not right now but when I'm working on it. Then I have to go back over everything and polish it up. the speed sucks on the latest version so that is my main concern that I would love to sort out before the next release. I'm not too sure when it will be out, soon hopefully.

Wow. fast response. well i will keep checking the site every day for it...
new stargate atlantis... how great will it be...

If you head over to the sourceforge page I setup a mailing list which I'll post to when the next release is out. I did that so that people wouldn't have to keep manually checking for when the next release is.

I've still not taken all the screenshots I want of the last series, got a big long list of them left to finish.
-- TannSan (2007-10-05 07:29:42)
Great Work!

Please keep it up, I can't wait to see the next release.

Hey there, I'm planning on somehow making this work as my desktop, using addresess to open programs. Is there a way to do this? and if so, is there a way to make the dhd ui go into a minimal memory use mode upon sussessfull dialing and starting of a program? with a button in the center of the screen that starts it up again? my email address is daemonic_shadow@hotmail.com if you could let me know, thank you.

What model is Weir's laptop and the tablet Mc Kay? uses (I know it's the same model)?

Dear David, as I probably feel right, you abandoned SGA projects. I've made the part of SGA world, in which your DHD could connect with my ring. I made AI also and 3 wide scenarios to play for all. I would be happy to share it with you and even more, but I would like to see the code to make the signs oscillate back and forth, cause my code in flash isn't working properly yet. It oscillates, but between 2nd and 9th chevron. After we join, that is I join my code to your DHD it could be much easier to accomplish the task.

Anyway, if you have time, please explain the dialing sequence closer, cause what you mentioned and described at your site isn't clear for me. I'm not a SGA fan, but a programmer.
