"I hope so, Commander, for your sake. The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am."
Note to everyone
10th February 2010 – The sim is not dead I've just been very busy. Over the past year or so I've setup my own company, changed how I work, moved house and got really into my fight training. I've also done a lot of work on the sim since my last official release. The entire code base has been re-written and the sim is now entirely ActionScript 3. The actual DHD is complete as far as I can tell. There are a whole bunch of new features in there. I started adding a wrapper around it all to encompass the various other screens I planned on implementing such as the different gate screens and the self destruct. I just ran out of time with that. The real sod was the wrapper screen. I have a very particular mental image of how I want that to work and the fact of the matter is that once I'd finished it, well performance sucked. It was alright except during the page transition sequence. I'm tempted to try out PaperVision and see if that helps. If it doesn't then I'll just remove the transition system and replace it with something less intensive. It will be a pity though as it would be really cool if it had smooth playback. I just checked and hte last time I worked on it was last December. I have about 9 personal projects on the go at the moment and this is one of them. I'm in the process of getting a couple of designers to knock up some designs for me for them all including a new site for the this project. I'll co-incide the new site with the final release of the sim.
Overview
This is a simulation of the Stargate Atlantis Dial Home Device. It includes an example Stargate screen and an example planet movie (Athosia). I decided to release this version now although there are still several additions I would like to make. The DHD is release edition only and therefore the source code is not included. I do not permit the usage of the code via any form of extraction it may be put through. The gate screen and Athosia demos both include their source code so that you may modify and create your own versions. My hope is that there will be a forum that you can post your movies in so others may share what you have created. Lets get onto the fun stuff; what it can do:
