React Native Mobile App

I was the lead developer on the React Native mobile app for one of our larger clients who provide boilers and boiler support across the UK. We inherited the original version of the app from another agency and found it was in a poor state with several major issues including package updates being ignored for over 6 years. I handled the urgent issues and continued with new feature requests while we worked in parallel towards creating a brand new version, rewritten from the ground up. Having access to the original version meant that we were able to make the transition to the new version seamless for the users and it’s been smooth sailing since.

The mobile app uses React Native with the Expo managed workflow and is published in the Apple and Google stores. It allows users to access several utilities and help documents for their products, and if the user is a registered engineer, then they have a guided guarantee registration process along with dedicated support services.

It’s a great project to work on as there is always a backlog of good feature tasks and a constant need to stay on top of all the package updates. We stick to actively maintained packages and stay up to date with them all which is usually straight forward but sometimes several will introduce breaking changes which need urgent attention so then it becomes a balancing act of handling those while sticking to feature release deadlines. We get it done because we have a good team, it’s a fun project and it’s nice to know we’re helping people 🙂
