Stargate Atlantis Simulator
Back when I was the moderator of the Dev Shed Flash forum, I was approached by a group of fellow Stargate fans who wanted a simulator of the Stargate Atlantis dialing computer. I really enjoyed the Stargate movie and SG-1 TV series so with Atlantis being brand new, it seemed like a fun challenge.
The initial goal was for the Dial Home Device computer screen but once that was complete, I evolved the project into a simulator to cover all the Atlantis laptop computer systems, so it included the D.H.D., outgoing gate screen, destination gate screen, gate address book, wormhole screensaver and SGA emblem screensaver.
The screens could each be loaded individually or through a cube-based UI as seen in the TV show. Most of the project was written using external ActionScript 3 with programmatically loaded timeline-based animations. The app settings and Stargate addresses were configured using XML files so the users could make the experience their own. Dialing an address would launch different Flash content depending on the address or it could be setup to launch external batch files so you could run any command at a system level.
