WackoWiki
I helped a lot of people with their projects when I was a Dev Shed moderator and one of those was Martin, the project lead for the opensource WackoWiki. The problems he had, mostly stemmed from the international nature of previous team members. Large amounts of code had cryptic function and variable names and little in the way of comments or documentation and those tended to be in Cyrillic! This meant the project was difficult and slow to work on for the main developers and people who wanted to contribute their own updates.
Initially, I helped by fixing bugs along with deciphering and documenting the code. Over time, I became the lead developer and as we improved the development experience, more people joined in to form a great community of developers. I enjoyed working on the wiki for four years before leaving to focus on other projects.
It’s a rewarding feeling to know that my code is woven into the history of WackoWiki and that it’s still going strong.
